Welcome to the Flying Electron's Website
We are one of Wisconsin's largest radio controlled aircraft clubs. It all started out in 1961 when a small group of guys, who were into radio controlled airplanes, got together and formed our club.
The purpose of our club is to educate its members, and the general public, in the hobby of radio controlled model aircraft construction and operation; to further the aim and purposes of the Academy of Model Aeronautics; to encourage and regulate safety concerning the operation of such aircraft; and to engage in such charitable activities relating to that hobby as may be determined from time to time by the board of directors.
Free Flight Instruction for New pilots!
Our primary purpose is to provide those new to the hobby a means of successfully learning how to fly. Assistance will be provided with all aspects of "getting airborne" from our members. From the selection of your first plane and equipment, to flying your second or third aircraft, we can help. We use a "Buddy Box" for the training lessons because this method, which uses the student's radio transmitter and a second unit connected by a cable, allows the instructor to quickly recover the model in mosts situations. Our membership consists of a large number of very skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced pilots. There is no additional cost beyond Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) and Flying Elections dues.
If you're interested in getting involved in RC modeling you're in the right place.
You will find the answers to most of your questions on this page. Here are some steps to follow if you're thinking of joining. Visit us at our flying field or meetings. Get to know the club and some of our members. Ask lots of questions. We an even arrange for you to take an introductory flight lesson to see if you really like it.
If you're hooked, and we know you will be, join the AMA . You must join them before you can join our club. Joining is easy as going to their site . Once you get that taken care of, you can fill out one of our applications, pay the proper amount and send it in along with a copy of your AMA card or receipt. Below you will find the application document, a new member orientation, pilot to instructor qualifications, field rules, and club bylaws.

What you see at our field, you may one day fly!
Park flyers and trainers. The HobbyZone Cub is a great plane to learn on but there are others.
ParkZone T-28 is a great 2nd plane and a great confidence builder. Extremely docile to fly and it can take a beating.
Scale models which have much more detail than the T-28. They could be a B-25, a P-51 Mustang, electric or glow powered. If you really feal the need for speed, there are electric ducted fan jets (EDF's) which can go in excess of 100 mph! Now if you really get the bug for jets, and who wouldn't, the ultimate is one powered by a turbine. The real deal only much smaller than the jets you've flow in to get to your vacation spot. Many of them have the same details as their bigger brothers. These will go 200+ mph and with that speed comes a cost, some about the same as a small car!
3D flying: These planes will do much more than rolls, loops and stalls. Many of the pilots flying them are discovering new manuvers as they fly. They are a hoot to watch and come in electric, glow and gas.
Gliders: Most of them are 3-channel like the trainer you might have had. Many have electric motors which can get you up to the altitude where the birds hang out in the thermals.
Helicopters add an entirely new twist. You will have to know the basics like you learned flying a fixed-wing plane but in this case the wing is the rotor which makes the heli go up, down, sideways, backwards and lots of other ways.
